CLOOS robotic welding system reduces manufacturing times

Streamlining the production of construction equipment components and simultaneously increasing the number of pieces: This was the objective when the family-owned company Winkelbauer invested in a CLOOS robotic welding system. Construction equipment components belong to the structures which are subject to the heaviest stresses. Material and welding technology are the two core areas here that are decisive for the reliability and durability of these components. For this reason, every welded seam must be worked on with extreme diligence. High productivity combined with high quality: These demands are met perfectly by the standardised CLOOS welding system.

Welding robot saves 30 hours per excavator shovel

In the past, a welder worked up to 40 hours on an excavator shovel, today the CLOOS welding robot does the same work in one shift. “This time saving is even higher than what we had calculated and expected before”, the managing director Michael Winkelbauer says. That’s because the welding robot executes even metre-long seams neatly and almost spatter-free, something even an experienced welder cannot accomplish. “Robot, power source and welding technology collaborate here just perfectly and failure-free.”

Technical specifications
of the robotic welding system
  • Type 320 welding robot installed on elevated track with carriage in overhead position for a very large operating range
  • Shortening of the programming operation with the offline programming system ROBO-PLAN
  • Maximum flexibility by means of automatic tooling system:
    1. Preheating of the component with oxygen burner, arc welding and TANDEM welding
  • Optimal welding results due to two pulsed arc welding power sources in 600 A version
